Sidney George GOOCH, son of John GOOCH (c. 1854-c. 1923) and Eliza LONG (c. 1855-c. 1945), was born on 22 October 1893 in North Lopham, Norfolk. Sidney was attested into the military on 5 September 1914. - 4th Bn. Norfolk Regiment, Private 2576. From 5 September 1914 to 21 April 1916 Sidney served on home soil, 1 year 230 days service. On 20 Apr 1916 he was deemed “no longer physically fit for War Service”, and was discharged. He had severe varicose veins in both calves which had been progressing since enlisting. Sidney re-enlisted on 21 January 1918, 141st Coy. Labour Corps, Private 273954. He was transferred on 3 April 1919 to Class “Z” Army Reserve. He died on 19 March 1976 in Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk - aged 83 years. He was buried on 24 March 1976 in North Lopham. He had his estate probated on 11 May 1976 in Ipswich, Suffolk - “GOOCH, Sidney George of 3 Victoria Gdns Wattisfield Diss Norfolk died 19 March 1976 Probate Ipswich 11 May. £1069. 761101481R.”
